Jien Chen and Umashanger Thayasivam receive the University's 2006-2007 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award.

The Department is excited to welcome Li (Lily) Wang as a new faculty member, with a starting date of August 2007. Lily received her PhD degree in 2007 from Michigan State University where she worked on polynomial spline smoothing for time series under the direction of Lijian Yang.

Congratulations to Gauri Datta for receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Department of Statistics, University of Florida, November 2007. Gauri received his PhD at the University of Florida under the supervision of Professor Malay Ghosh in 1990 and joined our department in the same year. His outstanding record in the profession makes him an excellent choice for this award.

Congratulations to Jill Smith, who was the recipient of a 2008 Sandy Beaver Special Teaching Award in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences for her outstanding accomplishments as a teacher. Well deserved Jill!

Congratulations to Chris Franklin for being a recipient of the Lothar Tresp Outstanding Honors Professor Award for her superior performance and dedication as a teacher in the Honors Program at UGA. An outstanding achievement and a wonderful recognition!

We congratulate Lily Wang for becoming an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute.

Nicole Lazar has been selected to participate in the Writing Fellows Program in 2008/09. This program, which will be in its second year, is run by the Center for Teaching and Learning at UGA.

The Department of Statistics at the University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level, starting August 2011. Applicants must have a demonstrated research interest in statistics education. A Ph.D. degree in Statistics, Statistics Education, or a closely related field is required. Scholarly credentials must reflect a strong commitment to teaching at all levels. Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate potential to develop an active research program in statistical education.
