We are excited to announce the partnership of the University of Georgia Department of Statistics and State Farm through State Farm's Modeling and Analytics Graduate Network (MAGNet) program.  The new program is set to begin this fall and will offer select master's degree students the opportunity to gain real-world experience while completing their degree. Congratulations to Dr. Sanjay Shete for being appointed the Barnhart Family Distinguished Professor at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center effective June 1, 2014.  Dr. Shete obtained his Ph.D. in Statistics under the guidance of Dr. T.N. Sriram in 1998.  According to Dr. Sriram, Dr. Shete has been "scaling new heights for some years now...Sanjay really makes us all proud."

Each year, the American Statistical Association (ASA) names select individuals as Fellows.  According to ASA, "the designation of Fellow has been a superlative honor in ASA for nearly 100 years."  This year, we congratulate Nicole Lazar for receiving this prestigious recognition!

"The Best Writing on Mathematics" is published annually by Princeton University Press.  Nicole Lazar's column "The Arts - Digitized, Quantified, and Analyzed," was originally published in CHANCE Magazine and will be published in the 2014 edition of “The Best Writing on Mathematics” which is expected to be released later this year.  According to the Princeton University Press, “this annual anthology brings together the year’s finest mathematics writing from around the world.”&nbs

A former student of the Department of Statistics, Ming-Hung (Jason) Kao recently received an NSF CAREER Award.  According to the National Science Foundation website, this award is given to junior faculty who “…exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations.”  Jason graduated from the University of Georgia in 2009 under the supervision of Professor Abhyuday Mandal and Professor John Stufken with a dissertation entitled “Optimal Experim
