Working on this study, Devasia and Handel studied a large set of outbreaks of norovirus infections. Statistics Undergraduate Students at CURO 2015 Symposium Several of our undergraduate Statistics majors participated in the 2015 CURO Symposium held at the Classic Center in Athens on March 30 and 31, 2015. Samantha Cao and Andrew Kane made a poster presentation of their research supervised by Dr. Abhyuday Mandal, and Zachary Stokes made a poster presentation of his research supervised by Drs. Accepting Applications: Limited-term Assistant Professor The Department of Statistics at the University of Georgia (UGA) has an opening for a one-year limited-term position at the Assistant Professor level, starting Aug. 14, 2015. A PhD in Statistics, or a closely related field, is required. The Department offers a vibrant research environment, with emphases in theoretical statistics, Big Data (genomics and neuroimaging), statistics education, and statistical consulting. Two Department of Statistics Alumni Named as AAAS Fellows The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is the world’s largest general scientific society. It is a remarkable accomplishment to be chosen as an AAAS Fellow. To be admitted into the 140-year-old organization, nominees are reviewed by steering groups within their particular sections, and a final list is then forwarded to the AAAS Council, who then votes on the aggregate list. The Department of Statistics is proud to see two of our alumni bestowed with such a prestigious honor: Dr. Susmita Datta and Dr. Sanjay Shete. Wenxuan Zhong receives $1.44 million NIH grant DNA methylation has been newly discovered as a key controller in gene transcription too. Aberrant DNA methylation changes can cause a number of human diseases such as developmental diseases (ICF syndrome, Prader-Willi and Angelman syndromes etc), ag- ing related diseases (i.e. Alzheimer’s disease), heart disease, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases.
