John Stufken will be the Rothschild Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences in conjunction with the program Design and Analysis of Experiments, which will be held at the Institute from July 18 - December 21, 2011. The appointment as Rothschild Distinguished Visiting Fellow is a one-month appointment at the Institute during the period of the program.

The department is delighted to announce that Christine Franklin will be inducted as faculty member into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society in December of 2010. Congratulations Chris!

The department was informed that Jeongyoun Ahn is a 2011 recipient of the M.G. Michael Award for Research from the Franklin College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Congratulations Jeongyoun!

Replacing Richard will be Julie Davis, who has transferred from the External Affairs Division, and who was with us previously in 2007-08. Julie will bring back her prior experience in the position, as well as new skills that she developed while at the foundation. Welcome back Julie!

Richard Worthington, who was our Administrative Associate, has transferred to the Department of Romance Languages as their IT Professional Associate. We appreciate Richard’s skilled support to our department, and we congratulate and wish him the best of luck in his new IT position!

Our best student awards this year go to Best Senior, Hsin-Ping Wu; Best Beginning Applied, Adam Jaeger; Best Beginning Theoretical, Sandra Addo and Haileab Hilafu. Congratulations to these hard-working students! Each student will receive a monetary award and certificate.

October 20, 2010 has been declared World Statistics Day by the United Nations. See here for more information. Visit the display about statistics that the Statistics Club has organized for 10/20/2010 from noon-3 pm at Tate Center Plaza.

Our department is very pleased with the hiring of Dr. Mark Werner, who started his position as Lecturer in August 2010. Mark will play an important role in teaching statistics for business students, and is also interested in further pursuing his interests in statistics education. Welcome Mark!

We would also like to congratulate Dr. Kim Gilbert and Jack Morse, in that their positions are now permanent instead of temporary. Kim is a Lecturer, primarily working with MSIT 3000 classes (along with Mark), and Jack Morse is now a permanent Instructor who teaches STAT 2000 classes.

Dr. Kim Love-Myers is replacing Dr. Chen as Associate Director of the Statistical Consulting Center. Kim comes to us from the Warnell School of Forestry, and she brings with her significant consulting experience along with an outstanding vision for consulting center operations. We look forward to a cordial and mutually-productive working relationship. Welcome Kim!
