The Department of Statistics at the University of Georgia partnered with Data Scientists at Wells Fargo to offer a Data Science & Artificial Intelligence Camp from July 15 - 19, 2024 (8am to 5pm). This was held in-person at the University of Georgia Campus. Twenty high school students, selected mostly from across the Athens/Atlanta metro area, participated in this camp. This week-long, hands-on learning program was a fun and creative way to gain exposure to Data Science and Artificial Intelligence to the high school students.

Abhyuday Mandal, Maduranga Dassanayake, and Sarangan Balasubramaniam were were nominated this year by their students for the Franklin College Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award.

This award for excellence in teaching annually honors outstanding faculty in the Franklin College who have shown a sustained commitment to high quality instruction. Congratulations, Lynne!

UGA Statistics PhD student, Shushan Wu, has been honored as one of the award recipients of the 2025 Student Paper Competition in the area of Statistical Computing and Statistical Graphics, sponsored by the ASA Sections on Statistical Computing and Statistical Graphics.

The Department’s Newsletter has been on hiatus for a while, so let's catch you up on the SCC news. For those of you who don’t know, the “SCC” is the UGA Statistical Consulting Center. The Center, which I direct, is a unit of the Department of Statistics, but also a Core Facility of the UGA Office of Research.

Deeya Datta wins AISC2024 and GSD2024 Award

Data Science major Sloka Sudhin and Statistics major Deeya Datta were finalists for the Undergraduate Presentation Award at the 2024 International Conference on Advances in Interdisciplinary Statistics and Combinatorics. Deeya Datta earned the runner-up award. Congratulations to both Deeya and Sloka!
