Grad Student Awards 2025
The year 2025 was a remarkable one for our graduate students — a year defined by creativity, hard work, and well-earned recognition. Luyang Fang, a fifth-year PhD student, received the prestigious James L. Carmon Scholarship, honoring her innovative use of computing in research. Shushan Wu, who finished her PhD in May 2025, was named winner of the 2025 ASA Student Paper Competition in the area of Statistical Computing and Statistical Graphics. Jiazhang Cai was awarded Graduate School Summer Research Grant, a testament to his outstanding academic performance and research promise. Meanwhile, Samuel Ewusi-Dadzie, Kyle Fuentes-Keuthan, and Andrew Mosbo were recognized with the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for their dedication to student learning and excellence in the classroom.
 
The year also brought distinction through our Best Student Awards, celebrating exceptional achievements across every stage of graduate study. Paige Taylor was named Best Master’s Student; JingYing Gao earned Best Beginning PhD Student; ShuShan Wu and TianYi Zhang were jointly honored as Best Senior Students; JianNing (Janine) Xu received Best Student Consultant; and Jameson Augustin was recognized as Best Volunteer Consultant. 
 
Our graduates continued this momentum beyond UGA, stepping into exciting new roles across academia and industry. Recent placements include positions at Amgen, Tencent Games, Travelers, Equifax, Huntington National Bank, and postdoctoral fellowships at Auburn University, Harvard University, Fudan University, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, the University of Chicago, and the University of North Carolina. Together, these achievements showcase the remarkable talent, perseverance, and impact of our graduate community.
