Ray Bai University of South Carolina Speaker's Website Thu, 02/23/2023 - 4:00pm 204 Caldwell Hall Biography: Dr. Ray Bai is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of South Carolina. From 2018 to 2020, he was a postdoc at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his PhD in Statistics from the University of Florida, his MS in Applied Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and his BA from Cornell University. Prior to his career in academia, he also worked in industry for five years as an engineer and as a financial software analyst. His research focuses on Bayesian statistics, high-dimensional modeling, and scalable machine learning algorithms for large and complex datasets. His research is primarily motivated by addressing "big data" challenges in contemporary biomedical and public health problems, including genome-wide association studies, computational drug repositioning, and analysis of electronic health records.
