Congratulations to Xianyan Chen!

Xianyan Chen is part of a Presidential Interdisciplinary Seed Grant titled "Nanotechnology- and Machine Learning-Based Rapid Infectious Disease Diagnostics," led by Dr. Yiping Zhao of Physics. The project aims to combine nano-optics and machine-learning techniques to develop a rapid, portable, and cost-effective point-of-care method to detect viruses—such as SARS-CoV-2—and bacterial infections in patients. Funding will support one student in Statistics from Spring 2022 through Spring 2023.

Congratulations to Lynne Seymour!

Lynne Seymour is part of a Presidential Interdisciplinary Seed Grant titled "Developing New Storm Design Criteria for Natural Hazards Planning Research and Practice," led by Dr. J. Scott Pippin with the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. The project aims to modernize precipitation and wind velocity data to improve public safety and foster the development of resilient infrastructure. Funding will support one student in Statistics from Spring 2022 through Spring 2023.

Gyu Beom Kim is a recipient of a CURO Research Assistantship for Spring 2022

Statistics student Gyu Beom Kim is a recipient of a CURO Research Assistantship for Spring 2022. This award includes a one-semester stipend of $1000 to conduct faculty-mentored research. Under the guidance of Dr. Abhyuday Mandal and Dr. Suraj Sharma (Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Interiors), Gyu will analyze that aims at the consumer’s intention of using face masks with respect to comfort and safety with surveying the schoolteachers in Athens-Clarke County to find their preference for various face coverings.
