Sha Cao, a PhD student in Statistics, working in Bioinformatics won the very competitive and prestigious Grimes Family Distinguished Graduate Fellowship in Natural Sciences. 

The Grimes Fellowship provides academic year support to a graduate student in Franklin College majoring in the Natural Sciences working on the area of cancer research. The applicant should be in good academic standing, have innovative ideas, a strong work ethic and a creative mind.

Congratulations, Sha, for this great recognition!

Two teams of students from the Department of Statistics placed in the top three teams in the SAS Analytics Shootout. It was announced Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the SAS Analytics 2015 Conference in Las Vegas that the UGA Department of Statistic’s two teams placed first and third. First place went to Fei Liu (Captain), Lina Liao, and Wenbo Wu who were advised by TN Sriram. Third place went to Hao Tong (Captain), Anzhi Li, Richard Ross, Yan Wang, and Guohui Zhao who were advised by Jaxk Reeves. We want to wish them all a huge congratulations on their accomplishments! The University of Georgia’s Department of Statistics is lucky to have you all on our team.

The Jackie Dietz Best Journal of Statistics Education Paper Award, established in 2011, is given annually to the best paper in the Journal of Statistics Education in the previous year. It is named in honor of Jackie Dietz, the founding editor of the journal. We are extremely proud of Jennifer J. Kaplan for receiving this honor. She was recognized for her collaborative work with John Gabrosek, Phyllis Curtiss, and Christopher J. Malone titled  “Investigating Student Understanding of Histograms,” published in the Journal of Statistics Education (Volume 22, Number 2, 2014). ASA deemed the paper "fundamental to statistics education." Click here to read more.
